Ethernet

What is Ethernet?

Ethernet is a widespread technology used to connect devices in a wired local area network (LAN) or wide area network (WAN), allowing users to communicate with each other. Based on a standardised protocol, it offers a direct, high-speed connection, providing security and reliability when compared to a wireless connection. Ethernet originally offered throughput of 10 megabits per second (IEEE 802.3), but thanks to iterations of new standards by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), it now offers speeds of up to 400 gigabits per second. This is known as Terabit Ethernet, which refers to speeds above 100 gigabits.
